What is Dog Agility?

Agility mixed breed dog jumping at the training ground of the Center of Canine Sports in Dallas, TX.

Agility is a fun, fast-paced sport for you and your dog. The dog and handler must work together to negotiate a timed obstacle course featuring jumps, tunnels, and more. Speed plus accuracy in performing the sequence of obstacles is the key to the sport.

It’s the perfect energy outlet for that bored dog, bored kid, or an adult who wants to enjoy a sport that’s all about having fun with your dog. Agility can transform your hard-to-handle, difficult, and/or destructive dog into a happy, easygoing pet and companion once they know they have a job to look forward to out on the field. It also helps shy or fearful dogs to develop confidence.

Dog agility can be done just for the fun of it — dogs love it, and so do their people! — or you may decide that you would like to compete with your dog.
